The Neighborhood
Impact on Kids Project is funded by the National Institutes of
Health. It is being conducted in San Diego, CA and King County,
WA to learn more about how local neighborhoods can affect the
health and growth of children.
There are currently over 750 families participating in the NIK Project. In June, we started to contact families in San Diego for the second phase of the project. Seattle families will be contacted starting in October.
Participation in the second phase is just like the first. Parents will complete a survey about their home and neighborhood,
and tell us about the variety of foods their child has eaten.
Children will wear an activity meter for one week, and we will
take measurements of their growth. We will also take measurements of parents. For participating in this second phase, families will receive $60!
